With a power output of 6.4 kW (8.7 hp), the STIHL MS 881 not only features the most powerful STIHL 2-MIX engine of all STIHL chainsaws, but is also the most powerful mass-produced chainsaw in the world. This petrol chainsaw is designed for forestry workers and professionals in the logging industry, delivering reliable and efficient performance for felling, cutting, and ripping large timber.

Starting the STIHL MS 881 is designed to be as easy as possible. It is equipped with a decompression valve and the STIHL ElastoStart system, which significantly reduce the effort required to start the engine. The single-lever control allows all functions to be operated with one hand, so you don’t need to remove your right hand from the handle.

The STIHL anti-vibration system effectively reduces vibrations transmitted to the handles, helping protect your muscles and joints. The HD2 air filter, made of polyethylene, captures even the finest dust particles, keeping the engine clean. The filter is easy to clean and can be replaced without tools.

To prevent contact between your hands and the chain or bumper spikes, the chain tensioning screw is located on the side. Thanks to the stop switch, you can turn off the chainsaw at the push of a button. Once stopped, the STIHL MS 881 automatically returns to the start position, allowing for quick and easy restarting.

ADJUSTABLE OIL PUMP

OIL CONSUMPTION BASED ON NEED. The controlled-delivery oil pump can reduce your chainsaw’s oil consumption by up to 50%. Simply select position “E” for normal use. For extra-long bars or very dry wood, the user can increase the oil volume as needed.

HD2 – NEW FILTER

EXTENDS ENGINE LIFE. The HD2 filter protects your engine even from the finest dust, ensuring longer life and reduced wear. Made from PET material, it has up to 70% finer pores than fleece and polyamide filters, and is both oil- and water-repellent. This also makes cleaning the filter easier. When needed, the filter cartridge can be replaced easily without tools.

COMPENSATOR

LOW MAINTENANCE. The carburetor compensator ensures, through pressure compensation, that engine power, exhaust quality, and fuel consumption remain nearly constant over time, even as the air filter accumulates dirt. Clean the air filter only when performance drops noticeably, allowing for long periods of maintenance-free operation.

STIHL EMATIC SYSTEM

REDUCES OIL CONSUMPTION. The STIHL Ematic system includes a STIHL Ematic or Ematic S bar, an STIHL Oilomatic chain, and the controlled-delivery oil pump. It ensures that chain oil reaches exactly where it’s needed for lubrication, reducing oil consumption by up to 50%. For dusty conditions or long bars, oil volume can be easily increased with the new pump system.

MANUAL DECOMPRESSION

FUEL-SAVING STARTS. The decompression valve makes starting easier by releasing part of the compressed mixture from the cylinder. This protects the starter system and reduces the force required on the starter rope.

STIHL ANTI-VIBRATION SYSTEM

FOR MORE COMFORTABLE OPERATION. Vibrations generated during operation are most noticeable at the handle. The STIHL anti-vibration system’s damping and suspension elements reduce the transmission of engine vibrations to your hands and body. The result: smoother handling and significantly less fatigue during extended work.
